Study summary

New Parkinson’s Disease Study is Currently Enrolling New Patients

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an experimental treatment to reduce the motor symptoms of people with advanced Parkinson’s disease. A gene transfer surgical procedure is being used to evaluate the reduction in motor symptoms associated with advanced Parkinson’s disease: involuntary movement, tremors, gait disorder, and motor fluctuations. Males and females ages 30-75 may be able to participate in this study. Participants may receive the study drug or a placebo.

Eligibility requirements include but are not limited to:

Inclusion criteria:
  • 35-70 years of age
  • 5-year PD diagnosis, must be idiopathic (unidentifiable cause)
  • Willing to maintain current PD medications for twelve months after receiving study medication
For women:
  • Negative pregnancy test at all pre-surgical procedure visits
  • Willing to practice recommended birth control methods during and for minimum of three months after study drug administration

Qualified participants must

Exclusion criteria:
  • Received any experimental drug or biologic treatment within 3 months of enrolling in study
  • Prior brain surgery for PD
  • Physician diagnosed history of psychiatric disorders including depression, dementia
  • PD screening that determines non-idiopathic PD
  • History of or current immunosuppressive treatment that causes a weakened immune system
