Study summary:
Microsurgical Revascularization of the Ophthalmic Artery for Ischemic Visual Loss
A group of patients have undergone successful bypass of the artery feeding the eye retina and optic nerve. All patients had severe visual loss, low flow of blood to the eye, and had identifiable narrowing of vessels feeding the eye. All these patients regained significant vision following the procedure. No patient suffered any complications.
Patients had the following entities:
- Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy
- Posterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy
- Normal Tension Glaucoma
- Macular Degeneration
- Ischemic Optic Nerve Degeneration
- Ischemic Ocular Syndrome
- Ischemic Occulopathy
- Central Retinal Vein Occlusion Syndrome
- Retinal Vein Occlusion
- Retinal Artery Occlusion
- Severe frequent blurring of vision
- Diabetic Retinopathy
- Uveitis
Qualified participants must:
All patients must undergo non-invasive and invasive diagnostic studies including cerebral angiography to determine if they are candidates. Also, each patient will be evaluated before and after surgery by qualified ophthalmologists or optometrists.
Participants will receive:
All patients will receive pre and post-operative surgical care.
