Study summary:

Research is now underway to develop a noninvasive meter for measuring blood glucose levels. The device shines a painless beam of light into the forearm to obtain these values. The most important use of this kind of machine is the measurement of blood glucose level of patients with diabetes. Currently patients with diabetes have to prick their fingers, a painful process, many times a day to monitor their blood glucose level. This is a multi appointment study requiring finger blood references to be collected at each visit, and is being conducted to evaluate and validate our instrumentation. Volunteers will be reimbursed for their time and inconvenience.

Qualified participants must:

• Be between 20 and 60 years of age
• Not currently be taking any systemic steroid treatments
• People with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are eligible to participate.

Participants will receive:

There are no direct benefits to you for taking part in this research. However, it is hoped that the information gathered from this study will help make noninvasive and painless determination of blood glucose (sugar) levels for people with diabetes.
In return for your time and inconvenience of participating in this study, you will be compensated $35 for each sampling session for a total of 7 appointments. Each appointment will have 3 capillary finger sticks and participants will be run on noninvasive devices. Each appointment is approximately 1 hour in duration.
