Study summary:

Erosions in the esophagus can be caused by stomach acid when you experience GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) symptoms. The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of an investigational extended release AcipHex and Nexium to see how effective they are in healing erosions of the esophagus and providing symptom relief.

Qualified participants must:

• Be 18-75 to years of age
• Have heartburn at least 2 days a week for at least the prior month
• Be able to wash out of current heartburn medications
• Be willing to undergo at least 2 endoscopies to look at the lining of your esophagus and stomach
• Be able to return to the clinic for follow-up visits

Participants will receive:

All study procedures and investigational drug at no cost, and reimbursement of travel cost may be available to those who qualify.
