Study summary:
Would you like to be part of a Research Study for Depression?
Are you feeling sad and blue? If you are currently experiencing symptoms of depression, you know how hard it may be to get through the day.
If you have ever been diagnosed by a physician with major depression and are between the ages of 18 and 55, you may be eligible for this research study.
This study is designed to evaluate the safety of a new investigational medication that belongs to a new class of antidepressants which may offer fewer side effects and less interactions with food.

Participants in this study Participants in this study will be assigned randomly (like flipping a coin) into one of four study groups. Two groups will receive treatment with the study drug, another group will receive the drug Effexor XRR and the last group will receive placebo (sugar pill).
In addition to a screening visit at a study site, qualified participants will need to attend eight additional clinic visits. Participants may have unscheduled appointments as needed. Study drug is taken every day for 56 days. It comes in capsule form. Total study participation is approximately 13 weeks.
Participants must be able to call a toll free number to complete weekly phone assessments by answering questions over the phone using the keypad. All participants will receive study-related medical care including health-related assessments and investigational drug at no cost.
