Malaria Vaccine - Silver Spring MD (Clinical Trial 3841)

Study summary:

PURPOSE: To study whether a certain blood test can reliably identify the presence of malaria in people who have been infected, but who do not have symptoms of malaria.

NOTE: Two groups of volunteers will be exposed to malaria through bites of infected mosquitoes. Group 1 will be given several doses of mefloquine a drug to prevent malaria. Group 2 will not be treated until after exposure. Both groups will be monitored for a period of 6 months to see if they develop any symptoms.

Qualified participants must:

• Be 18-55 years of age
• Be in general good health
• Be available to complete all study visits over the next 6-9 months
• Have never had malaria, received an experimental malaria vaccine, been exposed to malaria in the past, or plan to travel to an area with malaria while in the study

Participants will receive:

No cost health screening and compensation for time and effort.
