If you have high cholesterol with plaque build up around the carotid artery, you may be eligible for this clinical research study. The investigational medication being evaluated converts cholesterol into suitable storage and thus may allow cholesterol to be removed from plaque in the arteries. Those 18 to 75 years of age who are diagnosed with 16% to 79% carotid stenosis by duplex ultrasound examination may qualify for this study. Participants would be provided with one of two different doses of the investigational medication or placebo (inactive substance) as well as the FDA approved statin medication Crestor. |
