The purpose of the study is to compare the blood sugar lowering effects and the safety of two different treatments. The reason for comparing different treatments is to allow tailoring of the diabetes treatment more closely to individual needs and to improve the blood sugar control by providing insulin in a way that is similar to how people without diabetes get insulin. |
| Qualified participants must: |

Be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Have never used insulin
Currently being treated with metformin with or without other oral diabetes medication |
