This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 2-arm parallel-group, multicenter study with a 24-week main treatment period and an extension assessing the efficacy and safety of ave0010 on top of pioglitazone in patients with type 2 diabetes not adequately controlled with pioglitazone. |
| Qualified participants must: |
|
Have Type 2 diabetes mellitus, as defined by WHO (1,see Appendix A) diagnosed for at least 1 year at the time of the screening
Been on a treatment with pioglitazone at a stable dose of at least 30 mg/day for at least 3 months prior to screening visit
Have HbA1c >=7 % and <=10 % at screening
In case of treatment with metformin, metformin treatment at a stable dose of at least 1.5 g/day for at least 3 months prior to
screening visit |
| Participants will receive: |

Office visits, investigational product, and will be compensated at least $50 for travel and time. |
