| Study summary: |

This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to determine the effectiveness of study medication plus metformin, study medication alone, or metformin alone in subjects with Type 2 Diabetes. This study has approximately 8 visits over a 3 month period. |
| Qualified participants must: |
|
Be drug naive
Have a HgbA1c between 7.5% and 10%
Be between the ages of 18 and 80
Have a BMI < 45
Not have a history of cancer in the last 5 years |
| Participants will receive: |
|
Compensation up to $600 for time and travel, study medication, diabetic supplies at no cost, and physical exams and monitoring of blood lab values. |
