Conditions: High Blood Pressure - Metabolic Disease
Purpose: To compare the effects of 300 mg Aliskiren on endothelial dysfunction during cold pressor test (myocardial blood flow by PET scan) and insulin sensitivity (hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp) compared to 5 mg Amlodipine in patients with metabolic syndrome and hypertension .
Study summary:
Criteria: Inclusion criteria: -Male or female adults aged 18 to 65 years with metabolic syndrome, specifically: HTN, HTN, IGT/IFG (but not diabetic) and abnormal MBF and euglycemic clamp. Exclusion criteria: - Presence of diabetes - Ethnicity of African Americans - Other protocol-defined inclusion/exclusion criteria may apply. Other protocol-defined inclusion/exclusion criteria may apply.
