Default 1300$/1 week/ sleep deprevation/ boston

Can I get some feed back on this study ?

The study pays between 800 and 1300$ ... requires 4 trips to Boston ... 2-3 weeks of keeping a diary and for the big $$... 64 hrs of sleep deprivation...
I think the pay is low for the time involved, but I'm over 50 and having a hard time finding anything....

I'd like to know what people think about this study and finding studies for over 50
thank you

Be careful, sleep deprivation can have very bad effects on your body and mind, make sure to do some research before signing up for this study.

Thank you;
This study comes with an 18 page disclaimer, done at a local Boston Hospital.
I can do a couple days w/out sleep but I really can't imagine 64hrs !

thank you;
I wish there was more interest/feeedback on this site;

Here is my experiance with the sleep dep stdy (short version) so far:

I just came back from from my first interview in Boston.
I left Portsmouth NH in time to arive by car in boston for 1:00pm, and left by 4:00pm, getting home by 6:00.

That day I drove 200 miles, used 25$ in gas, 16$ to park, 6$ in tolls, and used up an entire day, and will have to do it all over 3 more times if I take the study. I was paid 15 taxable $.

During the interview I was told (a) that I may only get 800$ (b) it could be mid Dec before the study begins (c) it could take 2-6 weeks to get paid after that

On top of that it takes 2 weeks of keeping a diary and one week including 64 hrs of sleep deprivation. I was told during the deprevation part I will be in bed some of the time ...

That's interesting that you will be in a bed for part of the time that you are undergoing the sleep deprivation, sounds like it will be particularly difficult psychologically.

Someone once told me about participating in study during which they were staying at a clinic for one month and were kept in a windowless room with no clocks. They were able to sleep/eat/relax whenever they wished so that the researchers could study the effects of sunlight on circadian rhythms. It took him a few weeks to get back to a "normal" schedule after he finished the study. You may want to keep your schedule open for a few days after the study because you will likely be very tired and not functioning optimally.

I said, this might be a usefull forum, if there were ....

Anyway, I have been offered 250$ more, for the study, without knowing how much I will get paid (800/1300).

Since there is no parking, it seems I could dump my car in Boston for 8 days, and take the blue line ??

I understand the no sleep part would be 2 (awake) nights in bed, following a regular sleep pattern. I would have one staff person with me and I would have all sorts of monitoring, including cameras /wires glued to the head, arms fingers, and the but!
