Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Clinical Trial
A top 10 international contract research organization (CRO) contacted ClinicalConnection.com and sought
to accelerate patient recruitment for a Major Depressive Disorder clinical trial. Based on the enrollment goals, a full suite of ClinicalConnection.com's
recruitment tools was recommended which included:
Branded website and screener creation: by creating a stand-alone website and integrated screener individuals could learn about the study
and determine if they are eligible after answering a brief questionnaire. Eligible users were then asked to enter their contact information which was provided to participating
study sites for follow-up and further screening. Additionally, the stand-alone website integrated advanced tracking features which allowed source tracking referrals
for analysis of recruitment methods. To view the study website please visit
Depression Research Study Website.
Database patient recruitment: ClinicalConnection.com maintains a database of over 265,000 members that are seeking clinical trials
participation. Members that were interested in clinical trials for depression and lived near a study site were alerted to the new clinical trial being available and were able to
learn about the study and determine if they are eligible based on the screening questionnaire. The trial was also posted on ClinicalConnection.com, which has over 100,000 visitors each
month searching for clinical trials listings and was also included in the monthly ClinicalConnection.com Clinical Trials Newsletter.
Advertising the study in the Clinical Ad Network: To generate additional interest
in the study and reach a broader audience the study was advertised on the Clinical Ad Network.
ClinicalConnection estimated that during a three-month recruitment period it would be likely that the following goals could be achieved:
-about 30,000 individuals would visit the branded website
-about 3,440 visitors would choose to complete the screener
-about 688 (20% of screened individuals) would be eligible for the study and would be referred to a study site
After execution of an initial work order, content for the website and screener were generated by the CRO in collaboration with ClinicalConnection.com and was IRB apporved.
ClinicalConnection.com then built the branded website and screener within two weeks and also generated the trial postings on ClinicalConnection.com.
Final approval was granted and a recruitment start date of September 9th was chosen.
The recruitment campaign proceeded on schedule and produced consistent referrals throughout the three month recruitment window. Over 30,000 individuals
visited the branded website with about half originating from ClinicalConnection.com Database Recruitment and half from the Clinical Ad Network.
Over 22% of visitors utilized the screener function which resulted in 813 pre-screened and eligible individuals being referred to study sites for
additional follow-up, which exceeded the goals initially set out by the CRO, sponsor, and ClinicalConnection.
Recruitment performance was overall very good with over 42 patients being consented and 29 randomized into the study. Both the Database Recruitment as well as the Clinical Ad Network were effective in driving not only visitors to the screening website, but also the Study Participants that were randomized.
Overall the CRO, sponsor, and sites were very satisfied with recruitment efforts from ClinicalConnection.com. The CRO let us know that
"The study team
is very happy with our results, especially since the study completed enrollment one month ahead of schedule! Thank you!"
