Study summary: Adolescent Stop Smoking Research Study - The purpose of this study is to test if a drug is safe and tolerable for adolescent smokers ages 12 to 19 who smoke more than 5 cigarettes per day (those 12 to 17 years of age will need a parent/guardian present to sign an informed consent). Participants would randomly be assigned to take the investigational oral medication or placebo (inactive substance) for 12 weeks, combined with smoking cessation counseling and would then be followed for up to 8 more months, for a total study duration of 1 year. Compensation is provided for time and travel and all study procedures, including psychological evaluation, smoking cessation counseling, physical exams and labs are provided at no cost.
