This study aims to compare the effectiveness and safety of a medication called JNJ-78934804 with two other treatments, guselkumab and golimumab, in people who have moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. It is specifically designed for patients who haven't had a sufficient response to, or can't tolerate, one or more standard advanced treatments for their condition. The study is structured to be rigorous and impartial, with participants randomly assigned to different treatments, which neither the participants nor the researchers will know until the study's conclusion. It seeks to determine whether the combination of guselkumab and golimumab can help improve the symptoms and quality of life for those living with this challenging condition.
Criteria:To be a part of this study, you need to have a confirmed diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (UC) that's at least 12 weeks old and is considered moderate to severe. This diagnosis should be backed by tissue samples and either an endoscopy (a camera test of your bowels) or imaging tests like X-rays or scans.
However, you won't be eligible if:
1. You're currently in the hospital getting treated for UC.
2. Your UC only affects the rectum or the area very close to it (less than 20 cm from the anal opening).
3. You have an open and working stoma or ostomy (an opening made during surgery for waste to leave the body).
4. You've had a major surgery that removed most of your colon (less than 30 cm of colon remaining).
5. If you are a woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
