RATIONALE: Screening tests may help doctors determine which patients are eligible for treatment on clinical trials. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is screening patients with central nervous system tumors for participation in National Cancer Institute (NCI) clinical trials.

Study summary:

OBJECTIVES: - Evaluate patients with central nervous system tumors for eligibility in NCI primary clinical research protocols. OUTLINE: Patients undergo various diagnostic procedures and clinical testing to determine eligibility for participation in NCI CNS tumor primary clinical research protocols. Patients undergo imaging scans; laboratory testing of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, bone marrow, urine, and other specimens as needed to determine protocol eligibility; and other specific organ function tests. PROJECTED ACCRUAL: A maximum of 3,000 patients will be accrued for this study within 5 years.
