Study Summary:

African Americans and Stress
In Connecticut but Recruits Nationally

Aim of Study To better understand effects of stress on cardiac function and hormone release.

Requires 2 separate visits.

1 for screening and evaluation (about 6 hours).

second visit for study proceedures (about 5-6 hours).

Other Info Screening involves free comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluation including blood work, EKG, and physical exam.

Study involves administration of Yohimbine which briefly affects hormone and blood chemical levels.

Notes: if you do not reside locally, travel reimbursment may be possible.

Qualified Participants Must:

• Be Men and Women of African heritage
• Be medically healthy
• Be taking no medications (birth control okay)
• Be between 18-55 years old
• Not be pregnant or nursing
• Not have any medical illnesses (i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, etc)
• Not be currently using illegal drugs
