Study Summary:

This study is being done to evaluate the effects of a drug called nebivolol in people with stage 1 or 2 hypertension, a condition where a person's diastolic blood pressure is 95 mm Hg or higher. Nebivolol, also known as Bystolic, is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of high blood pressure. This is a 11 clinic visit, approximate up to 14 week study. Weekly clinic visits are required to be performed in early morning (am) hours. This study will evaluate the safety and tolerability of nebivolol. In addition, this study aims to compare nebivolol to placebo to see if taking nebevolol is better than taking a placebo.

Qualified Participants Must:

• Be 18 to 54 years of age
• Have a diagnosis of high blood pressure, stage 1 or 2 (Diastolic blood pressure greater than 90 mm Hg and less than 110 mm Hg)
• If female, agree to use medically acceptable means of birth control (if sexually active)
• Not be taking more than 2 antihypertension medications
• Not have a diagnosis of asthma

Qualified Participants May Receive:

Study related medical examinations and laboratory evaluations. Study medication. Qualified participants also receive time and travel compensation of up to $335.00.
