Study Summary:

A multicenter, international, randomized, double-blind, parallel group study to evaluate cardiovascular safety of linagliptin versus glimerpiride in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at high cardiovascular risk.

Qualified Participants Must:

• Have a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes
• Have insufficient glycemic (blood sugar) control
• Be at high risk for cardiovascular (heart) events
• Be taking Metformin only and/or one other medication for diabetes control
• Have an HbA1c between 6.5% - 8.5%
• Meet other criteria to be discussed by phone

Qualified Participants May Receive:

Study medication at no cost, glucometer & strips/supplies, and modest compensation for time and travel.
