Clinical Trial 1480

New York, NY 10021

Study Summary:

A group of drugs currently used by patients with diabetes is being evaluated in clinical trials with cancer patients. In laboratory tests, these drugs have reduced the growth of head and neck cancer cells. Also, animals treated with these drugs developed fewer tongue cancers than those not treated with the drug. One of these drugs, Rosiglitazone (AvandiaTM) is being tested in this study to see if it can stop the growth of oral leukoplakia and erythroplakia. These are changes in the mouth that can sometimes progress to cancer.

Qualified Participants Must:

• Be 18 years old or older
• Have a confirmed diagnosis of oral leukoplakia or erythroplakia
• Not be taking agents intended to prevent oral cancer within 12 weeks of entering the study
• Be taking insulin, metformin, sulfonylurea, or other medications intended to control abnormal blood sugar levels

Qualified Participants May Receive:

Rosiglitazone (AvandiaTM) 8mg once a day.
