About the Study

The purpose of this clinical research study is to evaluate if the study medication may be effective in treating painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN).

As with many clinical research studies, the study medication will be compared with a placebo (inactive substance).

Participant Eligibility

To determine whether you may be eligible to participate in this clinical study, please answer the following questions:

  • Are you at least 18 years old?
  • Have you been diagnosed with Type 1 or 2 diabetes?
  • Do you experience moderate to severe pain in your limbs?
  • Do you experience other chronic pain (not related to diabetic neuropathy) which requires you to take non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs on a regular basis?
  • Are you willing to follow a study treatment plan, routinely scheduled study visits and other study tests and procedures?

If you answered yes to all of these questions you may be eligible to participate in this study. Speak with your physician about the study. If you answered no to any of these questions, you are likely not eligible to participate in this trial at this time. If you are uncertain regarding your eligibility or the diagnosis of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, speak with your physician.

Q1. How do I know if I qualify for this study?
If you are at least 18 years old and have been diagnosed with Type 1 or 2 diabetes, you may be eligible to participate in this study. Both men and women can participate.

Q3. How much does it cost to participate in the study?
It does not cost anything to participate in this study. Moreover, if you are eligible you will receive study-related medical care at no cost while in the study.

Q4. How long will I be enrolled in this study?
Participation in this study will last up to 19 weeks (15 weeks minimum, depending on time required to complete screening procedures). There will be at least 8 office visits that will be at the research site and 2 phone visits during the study.

Q5 How is the study drug administered?
The study medication will be administered orally, on capsule three times each day.
