Study Summary:

During exercise, one of the substances produced by the body is ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), which activates nerve sensory fibers. The purpose of this study is to explore the sensitivity of nerve fibers to ATP and their effect on blood pressure. Volunteers will undergo a normal bout of exercise as well as one in which the action of ATP is temporarily blocked locally.

This research study will involve 3 visits to the lab for a total of approximately 5.5 hours.


Qualified Participants Must:

• Be between 50 and 75 years of age
• Have normal or diagnosed high blood pressure with no history of chronic disease
• Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 30
• Not currently using tobacco


Qualified Participants May Receive:

Compensation of $60.00
