Summary:
Pre-Teen and Teen Weight Loss Study
Help Your Loved One Today
Obesity occurs when a person’s excess body fat has a negative effect on one’s health; medical professionals typically diagnose obesity via body mass index, or BMI. BMI is calculated by dividing weight by height.
17% of American children and adolescents struggle with obesity and weight loss. If not treated or controlled, obesity may cause cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, some cancers, and osteoarthritis. Obesity may also be linked to depression and low self-esteem.
Participation Requirements
Your pre-teen or teen may qualify if he/she:
- Is between the ages of 12 and 17
- Has a BMI greater than the 95th percentile for age and gender
- Has documented history of failure to lose weight or maintain weight loss in a lifestyle modification program
About the Study
This clinical research study aims to test the safety and efficacy of a new, investigational medicine in adolescents who are obese. It will also test how the medicine works in changing obesity-related risk factors.
