Clinical Trial 42604

Baltimore, MD 21201

Summary:

This is an inpatient research study to understand what happens when a person is infected with influenza (“flu”) and how the body controls the infection. To do this, we will admit healthy males and non-pregnant females, between the ages of 18 to 49 years of age and infect or (“challenge”) with a strain of the flu and follow them to see what symptoms occur and when they occur. Before the challenge, we will draw blood and take nose swabs and nose washes before we infect participants to understand if having antibodies in the blood or nasal fluid can protect from the flu infection or lead to a milder flu illness. We will also draw blood and take nose swabs and nose washes after we infect the participants to understand how and when the body’s immune response to flu occurs.

Qualified Participants Must:

• 18 to 49 years old
• Healthy
• Available for approximately 10-day inpatient stay
• Non-smoker or non-habitual smoker
• Have not received an influenza vaccine in last 6 months

Qualified Participants May Receive:

Your compensation will be up to $2565.00 for completing all study-related visits. A detailed study payment schedule will be provided at the screening visit.
