Clinical Trial 4697

Denver, CO 80220

Study Summary:

The prevalence of type II diabetes is increasing to epidemic proportions worldwide and therefore new and better treatments are, and will be, required. The treatment of type II diabetes requires multidisciplinary approaches including diet, exercise, and medication. When diet and exercise fail to control hyperglycemia adequately, a single oral medication is used and that most often is metformin. It is typically used as a first-line treatment due mainly to its good efficacy and safety, with in addition a neutral or mild beneficial effect on body weight. However, a substantial proportion of type II diabetic patients are not adequately controlled with metformin alone and therefore, these patients require the addition of a second anti-diabetic treatment. This clinical research study is testing the efficacy and safety of an investigational add-on treatment to metformin in comparison to a similar treatment already in use.

Qualified Participants Must:

• Be least 18 years of age
• Have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes for a minimum of one year
• Have been using a version of metformin for the past 3 months

Qualified Participants May Receive:

All clinic visits, medical exams, lab assessments and study-related medications free of charge, plus compensation for time and travel.

Clinical trials are medical research studies designed to test the safety and/or effectiveness of new investigational drugs, devices, or treatments in humans. These studies are conducted worldwide for a range of conditions and illnesses. Learn more about clinical research and participating in a study at About Clinical Trials.
