Study Summary:

This is a 3 month study to examine whether adding a vitamin D supplement will improve blood measures related to diabetes risk in African-American men and women, ages 40 and up. We're looking for individuals who are not taking diabetes medications but who may be pre-diabetic or have diabetes but do not require medication.


Qualified Participants Must:

• Be African-American
• Be at least 40 years of age
• Not be taking diabetes medications
• Have a BMI between 25 and 39.9
• Not be taking vitamin D or be willing to stop during study
• Not have had a kidney stone within the past 5 years
• Those having certain medical conditions may not be eligible


Qualified Participants May Receive:

There is a $25 stipend for screening and once eligible, may receive up to $300 for completion of the study. Participants will also receive their personal screening lab results. A calcium supplement is provided during the study.
