Summary:

How do the immune system and anxiety affect brain and behavior? This NIH-funded study will investigate how the immune system may influence brain and behavior in the presence of anxiety. Participants will receive an injection of endotoxin (a substance that activates the immune system and can cause flu-like symptoms that last up to several hours). Participants complete questionnaires and computer tasks, provide blood samples, and complete a 1-hour fMRI scan. Participants will receive monetary compensation and medical examinations.


Qualified Participants Must:

• Be between the ages of 60-80
• Have elevated anxiety symptoms
• Be a non-smoker
• Be in good general health
