CONFIDENCE Study: A Clinical Trial for Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and Type 2 Diabetes

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means your kidneys are damaged and do not function correctly to filter blood. The main risk factors for developing kidney disease are type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and a family history of kidney failure. There is a vital need to establish alternative treatments.

Why is the CONFIDENCE Study being done?

The aim of the CONFIDENCE study is to find out if the initial combination of two drugs (Finerenone and Empagliflozin) is effective and safe for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). To determine how well the study drugs work, a simple urine test to measure the albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) will be done regularly during the study as a marker for changes in kidney health. There will be other routine tests to determine safety of the study drugs.

Is the CONFIDENCE Study an option for you?

The CONFIDENCE Study might be an option for you if:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are diagnosed with CKD and T2D
  • You are already taking certain blood pressure medications (either an ACE inhibitor or an ARB)

There are other criteria and medical history that the study doctor will review with you to check to see if you can take part in the study.

Clinical trials are medical research studies designed to test the safety and/or effectiveness of new investigational drugs, devices, or treatments in humans. These studies are conducted worldwide for a range of conditions and illnesses. Learn more about clinical research and participating in a study at About Clinical Trials.
