Study Summary:

The purpose of this study is to learn if valsartan plus hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) will help lower patient's blood pressure more than if they took HCTZ alone. HCTZ is known as the 'water pill'. These medications have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of high blood pressure. web statistic

Qualified Participants Must:

• Be male or female patients 18 years of age or older
• Have a diagnosis of hypertension or high blood pressure
•Not have been diagnosed with Type I or Type II diabetes
• Not have history of heart disease, congestive heart failure, or any other heart-related problems
• Not have a history of cancer including leukemia and lymphoma in the last 5 years
• Not have chronic renal disease
• Not have severe hepatic disease
• Not have significant autoimmune disorders (such as systemic lupus erythematosus)

Qualified Participants May Receive:

All study related care, including physical exams, lab services, and study medication at no cost.
