Study Summary:

The objective of the current study is to investigate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of BI 10773 at two different doses compared to placebo during long term treatment (78 weeks) in combination with basal insulin (glargine, detemir, or NPH insulin only) in patients with type 2 diabetes with insufficient glycaemic control.

Qualified Participants Must:

• Be 18 years of age or older

Qualified Participants May Receive:

Study medication, study related physical exams, laboratories, and echocardiograms (at no cost), and compensations for time and travel.
