Study Summary:

Volunteers are needed for a free knee osteoarthritis (OA) study in the Tampa Bay region. This is a free-of-charge academic study conducted as part of a PhD thesis.

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of four conditions. Three of these involve 8-weeks of 3 days per week of simple rehabilitation exercises at home. The fourth condition is a topical cream applied once per day. Those using the topical will continue into an exercise program at the end of 8 weeks if they chose.

This is a home-based study. If qualified, the exercise specialist will come to your home. You will not have to travel to take part in this study.


Qualified Participants Must:

• Reside in the Tampa Bay region
• Be 50 years of age or older
• Have knee pain and mobility problems
• Have doctor diagnosed OA in one or both knees
• Not be engaged in a regular leg exercise program
• Not have rheumatoid disease other than OA (for example, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, gout)
• Not have a hip or knee replacement
• Not have unresolved balance or neurological disorder
• Not have history of major knee surgery or major knee trauma injury
• Not have hip or ankle instability or excessive weakness
• Not have a knee joint injection within 4 weeks of starting the study


Qualified Participants May Receive:

Free one-to-one training sessions with an experienced exercise specialist. All supplies, assessments, and training are free of charge.
