Research Site Introduction:

Founded by Stephen K. Tyring, MD and Patricia Lee, MD, Center for Clinical Studies (CCS) is a full-time, private outpatient research facility with two locations in the Houston, TX area that has been serving our patients for over 20 years with cutting edge new treatments for various dermatological and infectious diseases. We are highly recognized for our research excellence and exceptional ability to recruit patients for studies by the pharmaceutical industry and government agencies.

Dr. Tyring and Dr. Lee are principal investigators, each with more than 30 years’ experience in conducting phase 1 through phase 4 clinical trials. With more than 50 years of combined experience, Dr. Tyring, Dr. Lee, our Research Fellows and staff have specifically set new trends in medicine and changed the way all physicians treat various diseases. Our knowledgeable and experienced, full-time staff strive to provide outstanding patient care and are dedicated to making a difference in people's lives through quality clinical research. Research Site Description:

Center for Clinical Studies has two offices located in Houston (The Museum District) and Webster, TX.   CCS conducts Phase I - IV clinical trials for the Pharmaceutical industry and Government, as well as Investigator initiated studies. We are committed to providing accurate and detailed research in a timely and professional manner.

• Access to dry ice
• Climate-controlled and secured drug and records storage
• Extensive computerized patient database
• Access to referrals from private dermatologists
• Private space for monitors with high-speed internet connection, phone, fax and printer/copier
• ECG equipment
• Experience with Canfield Photographic equipment
• Crash cart
• CLIA-waived laboratory with processing space
• IATA trained staff
• Ability to collect and store PK/PD specimens, including serial PKs
• 3 private patient examination rooms at each location
• All staff are experienced in dermatological clinical trials and CITI-GCP traine

Patients are drawn from the greater Houston metropolitan area, the fifth most populous metropolitan in the U.S. With 2.3 million people in the city of Houston, we have a large and diverse population for potential participants.  In addition to Dr. Tyring’s private Dermatology office, we utilize the following tools for patient recruitment:

Additional Information:

Stephen K. Tyring, MD, PhD, MBA, is a board-certified dermatologist and virologist whose research interests include the therapy of various mucocutaneous diseases, especially those disorders with an infectious and/or immunological basis. He is an expert on herpes viruses, particularly shingles, the herpes zoster virus. Dr. Tyring has pursued these fields for more than 30 years and has successfully completed more than 300 clinical trials. He is an invited speaker at worldwide medical and public health conferences and is the author of more than 700 journal articles and book chapters as well as nine books.

In addition to his roles as Medical Director and Principal Investigator at CCS, Dr. Tyring holds the following current appointments:
