Study Summary:

A national study designed by Novartis to study a new treatment for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) is being started. This research study will include 1000 patients with relapsing forms of MS at about 175 medical centers in the United States. Fingolimod is an oral medication for MS that has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administratin (FDA) for treatment of MS. The main purpose of this study is to learn how satisfied patients are with fingolimod compared to other approved MS drugs and to monitor safety after changing from another disease modifying therapy.


Qualified Participants Must:

• Be 18 to 65 years of age
• Have a relapsing form of MS
• Have taken a drug used to control your MS symptoms for 6 months or longer
• Study doctor must think that you are a good candidate for changing your MS therapy


Qualified Participants May Receive:

During the 6-month study participation period, you will have access to study medication as well as medical assessments at no cost. The EPOC study will provide an opportunity to learn more about patients' satisfaction with fingolimod treatment. If you qualify and agree to join the study, you will be involved in the study for 7 months. You will be randomly assisnged into one of two treatment arms: fingolimod or standard of care disease-modifying therapy (DMT). You will be required to attend six appointments with your study doctor. During these visits, the study doctor will ask questions about your medical history and genreal heatlh habits, conduct brief stsudy-related physical examps and blood tests, and cmplete questionnaires regarding satisfaction with your MS medication. At the end of the six month period, those who were assigned to the DMT arm will have opportunity to continue for another 3 months with a fingolimod trial.
