Summary:
A multi-center, randomized, open-label, active controlled, parallel arm study to compare the efficacy of 12 weeks of treatment with Vildagliptin 100mg, qd to Thiazolidinedione (TZD) as add-on therapy in patients with Type 2 Diabetes inadequately controlled with Metformin Montherapy in a community-based setting.
Qualified Participants Must:
• Be 18 to 80 years of age
•
Be male, non-fertile female or female of childbearing potential using a medically approved birth control method
•
Be a patient who has received a stable dose of Metformin of at least 1,000 mg/day for four weeks prior to their first visit
•
Have a body mass index of 22-40 kg/m2
•
Have uncontrolled fasting sugars
•
Have the ability to comply with all study requirements
Qualified Participants May Receive:
Free glucometer with supplies throughout the study, free study medication or alternate medication for 10 weeks, and free labwork and office visits.
