What is the purpose of the LUTE Study?

The purpose of this study is to learn whether and investigational medication could be beneficial for patients with asthma who do not have good control of their asthma despite being on an inhaled corticosteroid plus a second asthma medication. The study will help doctors learn if the investigational medication may help reduce asthma attacks and improve lung function in patients.

What will happen during the study?

Participants will have a few visits during the first month, with monthly visists after that for up to two and a half years.

All participants will undergo study-related tests and procedures during the study, including blood and urine tests, and physical exams. Participants will also be asked to complete questionnaires about their asthma symptoms and quality of life.

All participants will be given an electronic device to take home. The device has a peak expiratory flow (PEF) meter with a built-in electronic diary. Participants will have to complete the diary once a day.

Who can participate?

You may be eligible for the study if you:

  • Are 18 to 75 years of age
  • Have been diagnosed with severe asthma for at least 1 year
  • Are on an inhaled corticosteroid
  • Have been on a second controller medication for at least 6 months

  • There are other reasons you may or may not be eligible to participate in the LUTE study; your doctor will review these with you.

Clinical trials are medical research studies designed to test the safety and/or effectiveness of new investigational drugs, devices, or treatments in humans. These studies are conducted worldwide for a range of conditions and illnesses. Learn more about clinical research and participating in a study at About Clinical Trials.
