Summary:
Do you have coronary artery disease?
If so, did you know that even though your doctor may have you on an aggressive treatment plan, your risk of having a future heart attack or suffering a stroke may still be HIGH. This increased risk may be related to high levels of inflammation in your blood vessels.
Ask your doctor about participating in The Cardiovascular Inflammation Reduction Trial (CIRT).
What is CIRT?
CIRT is a randomized trial. This means, that by chance, half of all participants will receive an active study drug and half will receive an inactive study drug known as a placebo. The study medication is a widely used anti- inflammatory therapy for rheumatoid arthritis with a well-documented safety profile.
Main Goal
To see if reducing inflammation can lower your risk of having a future heart attack, a stroke, or dying from heart disease.
Am I eligible?
You may be eligible to participate, if you have had a heart attack or have major blockages in more than one coronary artery diagnosed in the past and you have been diagnosed with either diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
Choosing to participate
If you choose to participate in CIRT, you will be followed for up to 5 years. During that period, you will receive all of your usual medical care. Additionally, you will receive special calendar packs which contain the study medications and you will be closely monitored by the study team for safety.
Qualified Participants Must:
