Summary:
Children and teens with bipolar disorder go through unusual mood changes that are more powerful than normal childhood moodiness. Sometimes they feel “up,” and are active and either overly happy or very aggressive and angry. Sometimes they feel “down,” and are much less active, acting sad, withdrawn, and uninterested in their favorite activities. Bipolar disorder can make it hard for a child to do well in school or get along with friends and family members. But with treatment, many children and teens manage their symptoms and lead successful lives.
If your child has bipolar disorder, he or she may be eligible to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational medication. “Investigational” means that the study drug is currently being tested and isn’t approved to treat children and teens with bipolar disorder.
Qualified Participants Must:
• Be 10-17 years of age
•
Have been experiencing any of the following:-Extreme Mood Swings
-Changes in sleep, energy level, and ability to think clearly
-Poor school performance
-Changes in Relationships with friends
-Destructive outbursts
*Doctors will also evaluate other criteria to make sure you qualify for this study*
Qualified Participants May Receive:
If your child qualifies for this study, he or she will receive the following at no cost during the study:
-Investigational medication or placebo
-Study-related care from a local doctor
-Possible compensation for your time
and travel
Health insurance and referrals aren’t required
to participate.
