The research is being done to test whether the active study drug is safe in patients who have diabetes, kidney disease and who are at risk for cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke.



To qualify, you must:

•       Be age 18 or older

•       Have Type 2 Diabetes with an HbA1c of 7.0% or higher

•       Be at risk for heart disease including but not limited to

         o   Are a current smoker of tobacco

         o   Have high blood pressure 140/90 or greater

         o   Have a Body Mass Index of 35 or greater (search nih.gov BMI to calculate yours)

         o   Have dyslipidemia (fat in blood) and are taking a statin medication

         o   Hospitalization for Heart Failure within the last 2 years

         o   Have a parent, sibling, or child with premature heart conditions

•       Not have active cancer(s)


Qualified Participants May Receive:

Eligible participants will receive all study-related medical evaluations; study medication; and study related laboratory tests at no charge.  Participation is voluntary and free of charge.  Compensation for time and travel may be available.
