Summary:

Individuals who experience moderate to severe allergies and/or autoimmune conditions are needed for PlasmaLab International's plasma research program for medical research. 

  • Qualified participants will receive $185 compensation for each plasma donation.
  • Some participants will be given the opportunity to remain in the program for an extended period of time with the same financial reimbursement.
  • The number of requested plasma donations is determined by our affiliate research groups.

Do you experience allergic reactions to one or more of the following?

  • Food: Eggs, dairy, soy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, legumes, chocolate, spices, fruit, vegetables, fish, seafood, meat
  • Pollen: Tree, grass, ragweed and other types of weeds, cultivated oat grass, cultivated rye grass, cultivated wheat grass, meadow fescue, meadow foxtail
  • Epithelium: Cat dander, dog dander, horse dander, cow dander, rabbit epithlium, other farm animals, feathers
  • Microorganisms: Mold, fungus, yeast
  • Mites: House dust mites, storage mites, furniture mites, grain mites, mould mites
  • Insects: Cockroach, bloodworm

Have you been medically diagnosed with Eczema/Atopic Dermatitis and/or Allergic Contact Eczema?

  • If yes - PlasmaLab is looking for individuals with medically diagnosed eczema/atopic dermatitis and/or allergic contact eczema to participate in its plasma research program.

Within the past 10 months, have you experienced an anaphylactic reaction to a bite or sting from one or more of the following?

  • Venoms: European hornet, fire ant, green numitti, honey bee, mosquito, paper wasp, yellow jacket, white-faced hornet, yellow-faced hornet

Have you been medically diagnosed with one or more of the following antibody-mediated autoimmune disorders?

  • Celiac Disease: Biopsy results from within the last 12 months are required. (*Note, if you are on a gluten-free diet, you will not qualify for this program. PlasmaLab DOES NOT encourage individuals with celiac disease to eat gluten to qualify for this program as ingestion of gluten will severely compromise your health.)
  • Crohn's Disease: Biopsy results from within the last 12 months are required. 
  • Grave's Disease: Tg or TPO results from within the last 12 months are required. 
  • Hashimoto's Disease: Tg, TPO, T3, or TSH results from within the last 12 months are required. 
  • Lupus (SLE/Systemic Lupus): ANA, SSA, or DNA results from within the last 12 months are required. 
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): Rheumatoid factor results from within the last 12 months are required.
  • Scleroderma: SCL-70 results from within the last 12 months are required. 
  • Sjogren's Syndrome: ANA with positive SSA antibody results from within the last 12 months are required.
  • Programs for additional antibody-mediated autoimmune disorders may be available. Please inquire. 

    Qualified participants must meet the following criteria:

    • Experience moderate to severe allergies and/or
    • Experience a medically-diagnosed antibody-mediated autoimmune disorder
    • Qualify for the program through a screening process (see Screening Appointment information below)
    • Be willing to donate plasma one or more times at our Everett, WA facility. All plasma donations are made by appointment only, Monday through Friday. 
    • Meet applicable FDA standards
    • Weight at least 110 pounds
    • No history of illicit drug use
    • Hematocrit of 38% or greater for females
    • Hematocrit of 39% or greater for males
    • Total serum protein of 6.0gm - 9.0gm
    • Negative for Hepatitis B, C, and HIV
    • Good veins at and below the crease of the elbow
    • Have had difficulty-free plasma or whole blood draws (if applicable)
    • No phobia of needles
    • Ages above 69 are allowed as donors with doctor's approval
    • State-issued photo ID with proof of home address

    Screening Appointments

    • Screening appointments take place at our facility in Everett, WA.
    • Screening appointments take approximately 30 minutes and are made by appointment. 
    • For our Allergy Plasma Research Program, potential donors will fill out an allergy questionnaire, review FDA standards, and have their hematocrit and total serum protein levels checked. A sample of blood is taken and sent to a testing facility to determine antibody levels associated to the allergies/autoimmune condition(s). 
    • For our Autoimmune Disorder Plasma Research Program, medical testing results from within the last 12 months are reviewed by our medical director, who will determine whether or not to proceed with a screening appointment based on the provided testing results. 
    • Out-of-state and long-distance potential donors: We will provide you a questionnaire to fill out specific to your condition(s). Please also provide available medical testing results. Our medical director will review your information and determine whether or not to proceed with a blood test at a testing facility in your area. Please keep in mind that PlasmaLab has only one facility, located in Everett, WA. If you would like to participate in the program, you will need to travel to our Everett facility for all plasma donations. Travel reimbursement may be available for long-distance / out-of-state donors.

    • Qualifying individuals who become study participants will receive $185 for each successful plasma donation.
    • Qualifying individuals who become study participants and live 50+ miles away: You may qualify for travel expenses to and from your plasma donation appointment.  
    • Qualifying individuals who become study participants and live outside of Washington State or more than four hours away from our facility: You may qualify for travel expenses and hotel accommodations (chosen and booked by PlasmaLab).
