What is Crohn’s Disease?
Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease or IBD that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to the end of the digestive tract. Signs and symptoms often include abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be bloody if inflammation is severe), fever, and weight loss.
Other complications may occur outside the gastrointestinal tract and include anemia, skin rashes, arthritis, inflammation of the eye, and tiredness. Bowel obstruction may occur as a complication of chronic inflammation, and those with the disease are at greater risk of bowel cancer.
Volunteers may qualify if they:
- Are between 18 and 75 years old
- Have had symptoms of Crohn’s disease for at least 3 months prior to the study
- Have had inadequate responses to other treatments such as corticosteroids, immunomodulators, and biologic therapy.
- If using other therapies, the patient must be on a steady and stable dose.
Qualified participants may receive all study related care at no-cost.
