Re-Experience a traumatic event, such as:
- Have nightmares
- Have Flashbacks – Reliving the event over and over, including physical symptoms like a racing heart or sweating
- Have something you see, hear, or smell that causes you to relive the event
Avoiding Situations that remind you of the event, such as:
- Crowds, places, events or objects because they feel dangerous or remind you of the event
- Feeling emotionally numb, strong guilt, depression or worry
- Losing interest in activities that were enjoyable in the past
- Having trouble remembering the dangerous event.
Feeling Keyed Up (Hyperarousal), such as:
- Having a hard time sleeping
- Having trouble concentrating
- Being easily startled by a loud noise or surprise
- Feeling tense or “on edge”
