Study Summary:

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE is a degenerative brain disease, thought to be caused, in part, by repetitive head impacts, such as those sustained by playing football. At this time, CTE can only be diagnosed after death through an autopsy. The DIAGNOSE CTE Research Project is designed to try and develop methods of diagnosing CTE during life, as well as examining specific risk factors for getting CTE. Participation includes a 3-day visit to one of four sites (Boston, New York, Scottsdale, or Las Vegas). All travel expenses are covered and you may receive up to $500 in compensation.


Qualified Participants Must:

• Be between the aged of 45 and 74
• Identify as African American
• Have never played contact sports
• Have never had a traumatic brain injury or a concussion
• Have no problems with memory, thinking, mood, and behavior
