Summary:

Postpartum depression (PPD) is one of the most common medical complications during and after pregnancy. During pregnancy, the levels of certain hormones rise and then rapidly fall after
giving birth. Among other factors, these hormonal fluctuations have been associated with developing PPD symptoms.3 Symptoms of PPD may include extreme sadness, anxiety, or hopelessness and should not be ignored. Symptoms may occur at any time during pregnancy or within the first few weeks after childbirth.
