Clinical Trial 57296

Pittsburgh, PA 15244

Summary:

Lupus - Multiple Locations in the US

The TULIP SC trial: A clinical trial for people living with moderate to severe systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This is an Autoimmune Trial & You trial.

It is estimated that 1.5 million Americans have lupus, and there are about 16,000 new cases each year. Nine out of ten people living with lupus are females, and it is most common in females of childbearing age.1 Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common type of lupus. This autoimmune disease causes the immune system to attack its own tissues, leading to widespread inflammation and tissue damage in the affected organs.2

What is TULIP SC?

Autoimmune disease such as lupus can greatly affect the quality of life. Although there are treatments available for various kinds of lupus, most patients must take the time to attend regular trips to the doctor for intravenous infusions. To further improve the ease and convenience of life for people with lupus, TULIP SC is looking into a potential new treatment option that people can do at home.

AstraZeneca understands the impact that autoimmune disease has on people’s quality of life. Although there is treatment available for various kinds of lupus, most patients must take the time to attend regular trips to the doctor for IV infusions. That's why we’re working on trials such as TULIP SC, to hopefully find new and more convenient treatment options that people can use at home.

Tulip SC is looking to see if weekly at-home injections of a new FDA-approved treatment called SAPHNELO® may reduce inflammation and improve the symptoms of SLE.

SAPHNELO® is the brand name for the medication anifrolumab. This medication is a monoclonal antibody. It binds to the type I interferon receptor, blocking the activity of type I interferons such as interferon-a and interferon-B.

How can I join TULIP SC?

TULIP SC may be the right trial for you if you:

 • Are between 18 and 70 years old
 • Are receiving treatment for SLE but still have symptoms

Additional criteria may apply.
