Clinical Trial 793

Madison, WI 53792

Study Summary:

Purpose:
The objective of this randomized, double blind, sham-controlled study is to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of Bronchial Thermoplasty ™ with the Alair System ® in a population of subjects with severe asthma who are still symptomatic despite being managed on conventional therapy of high doses of inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting B2-agonists, such as Advair® 500/50 twice a day (or equivalent).

Description:
The AIR2 Trial is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational non-drug outpatient procedure for the treatment of severe asthma. The procedure is called Bronchial Thermoplasty with the Alair System. During the treatment thermal energy is delivered to the airway walls in an effort to reduce the amount of airway smooth muscle within the airway wall, and thereby reduce the ability of treated airways to constrict in response to asthma triggers. The procedure is performed in a medical suite as an outpatient procedure with conscious sedation and takes about an hour to complete. Following the procedure, there will be a 4 hour post-procedure observation period prior to discharge. No incision is made, no general anesthesia is necessary, and there is no need to stay overnight. Patients will remain on their regular asthma medications. For more information see www.AIR2Trial.com or call 866-400-AIR2 to find out if you qualify for the study. free tracking
