Summary:
Do You Have Heart Disease? Are you interested in Exercise?
If you have a history of heart disease (heart attack, revascularization procedure or cardiac catheterization) and have symptoms of depression such as feelings of sadness, loss of interest, fatigue, sleep disturbance, or feelings of worthlessness, you may qualify for a research study evaluating the effects of exercise or medication on symptoms of depression and important cardiovascular risk markers.
Eligible participants will receive a medical screening and assessment of cardiovascular function along with a 4-month treatment program of exercise or medication (sertraline or placebo). Assessments and treatment will be provided at no cost, and participants will be compensated for completing the study.
Qualified Participants Must:
Have experienced a heart attack, had a coronary angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery, or had an abnormal cardiac catheterization
Be experiencing any symptoms of depression
Be 35 years or older
NOT currently taking antidepressant medication, exercising regularly, or in psychotherapy
Qualified Participants May Receive:
Medical and psychological assessments at no cost; Exercise or medication at no cost; compensation for time and travel
