Summary:
A clinical research study to evaluate 1-day treatment with famciclovir against 3-day treatment with valacyclovir in people who have recurrent genital herpes. The reason for this study is to find out which of these two medicines gives better relief of recurrent genital herpes by comparing the two different doses and durations. The doses and durations of famciclovir and valacyclovir are FDA-approved. Participants in this study will have an equal chance (like flipping a coin) of being treated with either 1-day treatment of famciclovir or 3-day treatment of valacyclovir.
Qualified Participants Must:
Be at least 18 years old
Have a history of at least 4 recurrences of genital herpes in the preceding 12 months
Have lesions located on the external genitalia or anogenital region
Be willing to discontinue suppressive treatment
Be documented positive HSV
Have general good health, and history of normal renal function
Qualified Participants May Receive:
$20 per visit, for a total of $260.00 if you complete the study. If you withdraw or are discontinued before completing this study, or if the study ends early, you will receive a partial payment based upon the number of visits completed.
