Summary:
This is a clinical research study to evaluate the cardiovascular safety of Febuxostat compared to Allopurinol in people who have both gout and cardiovascular problems. If you have been diagnosed with gout and have a history of cardiovascular disease such as heart attack or angina, you may be interested to see if you qualify for this clinical research study. In addition, people with a blocked artery in the heart or neck, individual with a history of stroke, trouble with blood flow in the legs, or diabetes may also qualify for this clinical research study.
Qualified Participants Must:
If male, be 50 years of age of older
If female, be 55 years of age or older
Have been diagnosed with gout
Have a history of major cardiovascular disease (include stroke, blocked arteries, diabetes)
Qualified Participants May Receive:
Study medication and study related medical care at no cost. There will be approximately 20 clinic visits over the 5 years. You will receive study-relate care from a team of physicians and research professional. More specifically, you will receive ongoing study-related physical exams and blood work, and preventive medicine for gout flares (first 6 months). Compensation for time and travel may also be available for those who qualify.
