The influenza vaccine for adults is an annual immunization designed to protect against the flu and its complications. It helps the immune system recognize and fight the most common circulating influenza virus strains. For adults, getting the flu vaccine each year reduces the risk of infection, lowers the severity of illness if the flu occurs, and helps prevent hospitalization—especially for those with chronic health conditions, weakened immune systems, or higher exposure risks. The vaccine is safe, effective, and an important part of routine adult preventive healthcare.
